Thorlabs, a leading photonics manufacturer, has expanded its capabilities by acquiring Praevium Research, a high-speed tunable VCSEL technology pioneer. This collaboration began in 2008 and has already led to groundbreaking advancements in MEMS-VCSEL Swept-Wavelength Laser Sources and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) systems.

The acquisition solidifies a nearly two-decade partnership that has improved the quality of life globally through innovative laser technologies. Praevium’s expertise will remain in its current facility near Santa Barbara, CA, where it will continue operating under its name. The company’s leadership will also remain intact, with Founder Vijay Jayaraman stepping into a senior scientist role and Christopher Burgner as General Manager.
